Sacramento County Sheriff's Office investigators are working a gunfire incident that unfolded late Saturday at the Howe Community Park area at the time officers were shutting down an unauthorized event of multiple hundreds of people.
Before the Gunfire
Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies initially got calls about Howe Community Park around 6:30 PM after obtaining information of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. Not long after, a second caller reported mentioning a reported physical confrontation unfolding within the park grounds.
Aerial units conducted an aerial sweep but came back with no confirmation of a fight. Nevertheless, it was evident that several hundred individuals had packed into the park without any permit or approval.
The Dispersal and Shooting
Law enforcement personnel started clearing the unauthorized gathering by encircling the gathering and using their vehicle PA systems commanding the hundreds present to clear out. Approximately 15 minutes were provided for people to comply.
At the height of the dispersal effort that an estimated 20 to 25 shots rang out. The sudden gunfire caused mass panic. Officers quickly moved to identifying shooting victims.
Four Gunshot Victims
When the dust settled, four people were found to have been shot. The shooting victims — comprising three men and one woman each reported to be in their 20s at the time of the incident — were transported to Sacramento area hospitals. Doctors and nurses stated that two had critical injury classifications, one had moderate injuries, and one person's injuries were considered minor. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported and all four were stable.
The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department assisted at the location and helped Arden Arcade shooting April 2026 triage those who had been shot at the park.
Evidence at the Scene
The primary shooting scene appears to have been concentrated adjacent to the Cottage Way side of the park next to the Home Depot at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Law enforcement investigators recovered additional spent rounds on Cottage Way. Bullet damage were discovered in the iron fence alongside the Home Depot store. This ballistic evidence indicated that at least one of the shooters had been aiming south from the Cottage Way area toward the Home Depot. The Home Depot was placed on lockdown for a period of time. Crime scene personnel stayed at the location through the early morning hours.
Arrests Made
Reports confirmed through law enforcement radio communications revealed that a Kia was intercepted in nearby Solano County. Four detainees were stopped and detained. Sacramento law enforcement were en route to collect those detained to bring the suspects back for formal questioning. Surveillance footage confirmed that two shooters had been involved.
